Welcome to Adam Gum Fishing
If you're here, chances are you found me through YouTube or one of my social media channels. Maybe you came across a tournament video, a random fishing trip, or just happened to see me chasing a bass somewhere.
Either way, welcome.
I've wanted to create a place where I can bring all of that together for a while. This site will be another home for my fishing content, including tournament recaps, fishing reports, tips, gear, and just some of the random adventures that happen when you spend as much time on the water as I do. Most of my content will still live through YouTube and my social channels, but I wanted a place where I could slow down a little and tell the stories behind some of those trips.
A Little About Me
I'm originally from Southern West Virginia, and much of my early life revolved around sports. I played football through high school and college and eventually spent several years coaching.
Football is still a huge part of my life, even though I eventually stepped away from coaching. I've taken a different career path while staying heavily involved in sports, particularly football and basketball. At the same time, I've found myself putting more and more of my free time into the hobbies that I really enjoy—especially fishing and tournament fishing.
Fishing wasn't always a major part of my life, though.
Growing up, I spent plenty of time camping and hunting, and I did some fishing, mostly trout fishing in streams. Some of my favorite childhood memories came from camping trips to Moomaw Lake in Virginia.
I remember seeing the bass boats heading out for the Friday night tournaments. They had flags flying off the back, and I remember wondering what those boats were doing and thinking it would be pretty cool to be good enough to fish tournaments someday.
At the time, I had no idea that I'd eventually end up doing exactly that.
How I Got Hooked
I didn't really get serious about bass fishing until I was in my mid-twenties, roughly eight to ten years ago. By that point, I had finished my college education, including earning my master's degree, and I was well into adulthood before fishing really became a major part of my life.
My first real tournament came because a mutual friend was kind enough to take me fishing. Sean, if you ever read this, thank you!
And somehow, we won.
That'll get you hooked pretty quickly.
From there, I started learning everything I could and eventually found my way into the BFL scene as a co-angler. Fishing as a co-angler taught me a ton. I got to fish with different people, see different approaches, learn new techniques, and experience tournament fishing from a completely different perspective.
Eventually, I knew I wanted to take the next step.
I got my own boat and started fishing tournaments as a boater.
That's where I am today, although I still mess around some out of the back of the boat.
What's Next?
Tournament fishing is a big part of what I want to document here, but it won't be the only thing.
Some of the best days on the water have nothing to do with a tournament. Sometimes it's a random morning chasing a few fish, trying a new technique, exploring a lake I've never fished, or just spending a day outside.
You'll see all of that here.
I also have bigger tournament goals. For now, I'm focused on continuing to compete, learn, and get better. Down the road, I'd like to take a shot at some higher-level competition, whether that's the Toyota Series, Bassmaster Opens, or another opportunity that makes sense.
I'm not there yet—and that's part of the fun.
This site is really about documenting that journey.
I'll share the tournaments, the good days, the bad days, the lessons learned, the random fishing trips, and everything in between. Most importantly, I hope it gives you a reason to follow along whether you're a tournament angler, someone who just enjoys fishing, or somebody who simply likes being on the water.
Thanks for being here.
Let's go fishing.
